Are PA Sexual Abuse Laws Too Strict?

It has been 3 years since the Sandusky trial conviction that has prompted PA lawmakers to enforce stricter policies to strengthen the PA child abuse laws. University Professors are required to obtain an extensive background check and fingerprints recorded every three years. The law applies to anyone working with children under the age of 18 years of age.

“I don’t consider my students to be children…standing in some line and being fingerprinted — it just doesn’t feel right. It seems intrusive in some sort of basic way,” says Penn State Art History Professor, Brian Curran.

The challenges facing PA lawmakers is to specifically define child abuse and who should be subject to extra screening based on that definition. Read Full Story
