Supreme Court Asks Lower Court to Reconsider its Ruling Against Notre Dame’s Objection to Contraception Coverage


Last week the US Supreme Court asked the 7th Circuit Lower District Court to reconsider its decision against Notre Dame in light of the June 2014 Supreme Court ruling that allowed certain privately owned corporations to seek exemptions from the provision. The university claims that while the HHS provided a compromise certification process to opt out of providing contraception coverage, that certification in reality is an authorization to the insurance company to provide such coverage directly to their employees.  Mark Rienzi, a lawyer with the religious rights group Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, said Monday’s ruling was “a strong signal that the Supreme Court will ultimately reject the government’s narrow view of religious liberty.”  Read Full Story
