FEGS – A Major Non Profit Closing its Doors for Good

Earlier today, the Federation Employment and Guidance Service Inc., one of the country’s largest social service agencies said it is closing its doors permanently. After 80 years of providing services for the sick, disabled and elderly, FEGS could not recover after suffering losses of $19.4 million last year. As recent as last April, FEGS notified the Department of Labor they will be letting go of 281 people. Financial breakdown stemmed from struggling social service agency mergers and lower federal reimbursement rates. Allison Sesso, executive director of the Human Services Council, a nonprofit membership organization said “We don’t want to get to the point where the services delivered are determined by what is financially feasible.
